If there was a car I could buy that would be my all time dream car it would be this and I happened to find a very clean example near my hometown. I would love to have one and wanted to know Oppos thoughts on how it drives and maintaining one. Should it be daily driven or garage babied.

Buddy has a 1979 930. Love it.

Why not buy a house instead with those oodles of dollar bills in your pocket?

I would imagine it drives likes a regular 911, except the gas pedal doesn’t do anything until about 4,000rpm, and then you’re in a tree.

A clean 930 is likely going to cost a fortune. Getting it maintained might be costly as I have heard that there are a lot of incompetent mechanics working with these. The good ones are costly.

But they aren’t very difficult cars to maintain if you want to do it yourself. I bought couple of Porsche engine building books but ran out of money to buy the actual car. But I’m pretty sure that I could now fix a 911 engine.

Driving a 930 is know to be dangerous. It didn’t gain the nickname of Widowmaker for nothing.

Is the house air-cooled?

Yes, which is why it’s so expensive these days.

1. Take out large insurance policy on one’s self (don’t worry about the car) 2. Purchase and hoon. 3. Profit!

Do you have a wife? Isn’t this the widowmaker?

930s should probably be babied given how high classic Porsche prices are; if you wanted to DD one I think it’d make more sense to look for a 996 or 997 Turbo.

My favourite air-cooled ones are still the 993s, although I do like the 964s as well (mainly because of Singer's work).

If I had one, I’d daily it. The 930 is one of the all-time great Porsches, and the feeling once the boost hits will never get old.

These cars were made to be driven. I understand the concern in taking a 6-figure car out on the roads, but I gotta say that I judge people buy one of these just to lock it up in a garage as an investment. Harshly. And enviously.

Yes! Move to CA with a garage if not already there, daily-drive and baby her

In salty wintery NJ, I would feel pretty blasphemous about it. But maybe my perspective would be different if I had eff-you winter 911 Turbo money.

Irrespective of price and value of 930s nowadays, stop and go traffic is not kind to the turbo and its bearings even with the intercooler. Plan on dropping close to five figures to have the turbo replaced if it goes from what I have heard. Then there’s the issue of said turbo kicking you from behind once it’s spooled up and you’re hanging on for control....
